The growing need for SUDS
The need for SUDS - Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems - is growing to meet modern challenges, such as climate change and increased construction due to population growth. Attractive, well-designed open spaces that incorporate SUDS help to create more sociable communities and improve the quality of life of an area, especially in schools where they provide interesting learning opportunities, combined with additional recreational spaces.
So, as a responsible constructor, we're specialising more and more in SUDS, which help surface water management and prevent flooding when it rains. These systems can actively manage large quantites of surface water and protect its quality, whilst adding to the biodiversity and greenness of the surrounding area. (Literally and metaphorically.) By lowering flow rates, increasing water storage capacity and reducing pollution, the managed water can be successfully recycled back into its local environment.
Every SUDS project we work on has a bespoke solution but the systems we can employ include:
Wetlands
Swales, basins & ponds
Permeable paving
Tree pits
Rain gardens
